On October 14, 2016, Yung-hoon Sung, Chairperson of the ACRC, and Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Central Party Commission for Internal Affairs, agreed to extend the term of the MoU on bilateral cooperation in anti-corruption for an additional two years.

Since signing the initial MoU in 2010, the ACRC has regularly shared its anti-corruption policies with its Vietnamese counterpart and actively engaged in bilateral cooperation. It has done this by supporting government policy-making in Vietnam through presentations on "corruption assessment criteria" and "policies for protecting corruption reporters" at international workshops.

The two parties will take the extension of the MoU as an opportunity to redouble their efforts to share policies and experiences in anti-corruption. And the ACRC will strive to offer customized training programs to suit the needs of Vietnam and advise on the localization of anti-corruption policies.

The signing of the MoU was followed by a working group meeting in which the ACRC briefed on the "OECD Anti-Bribery Convention," a matter of interest of the Central Party Commission for Internal Affairs.

The OECD Anti-Bribery Convention has been adopted to prevent the bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions and to promote fair competition. Korea put the convention into force in 1999.

"The extension of the MoU between the two countries is likely to help Vietnam successfully adopt Korea’s anti-corruption policies and lay the foundation for a fairer business environment for Korean companies in Vietnam," said Chairperson Sung.
