The ACRC announced that in the first half of this year it has paid financial rewards worth KRW 1.28 billion in total to 47 reporting persons whose reports contributed to the recovery of improper benefits worth KRW 14.81 billion.

In particular, large-amount rewards exceeding KRW 100 million were given in six cases worth KRW 920 million, 72% of the total financial rewards paid.

Among the total 42 cases in the first half of the year, the "fraudulent receipt of basic livelihood benefits" ranked first, with 15 cases in terms of number of payment. The "swindling of government construction expenses and consignment service fees" ranks first with KRW 559 million in terms of the amount paid.

Since the current administration took office, the ACRC has paid financial rewards worth KRW 4.28 billion for 138 reports of corruption, which resulted in the recovery of improper benefits worth KRW 58.8 billion.

The total amount of payment for reporting persons has generally increased over time. The commission paid KRW 950 million in 2013, KRW 620 million in 2014, KRW 1.43 billion in 2015, and KRW 1.28 billion in the first half of 2016.

Last year, the ACRC revised the "Enforcement Decree of the Act on Anti-Corruption and the Establishment and Operation of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission," raising the maximum amount of reward from KRW 2 billion to 3 billion, and the maximum rate of reward from 20% to 30%.
