On February 27, the ACRC held a ceremony to commemorate the 2nd Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Day at the Korea Press Center in Seoul. February 27 is the day in history when King Taejong of the Joseon Dynasty ordered the installation of the "Sinmungo" drum so that the people suffering from disadvantageous measures of government offices could beat the drum and voice their grievances.

Last year, the Commission designated the date as the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Day on the occasion of the launch of the new administration, hosting the first commemorative ceremony to demonstrate its commitment to protecting the people’s rights.

As part of the ceremony, the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Awards were given to the people and organizations that contributed to enhancing the rights of the people or spreading a culture of integrity in each sector of society. This year, a total of 60 government prizes and 57 ACRC citations were awarded to 13 organizations and 104 persons, including 5 merits and 5 medals. This ceremony was attended by about 300 participants, including the awardees and their families; Kim Jung-hoon, Chairman of the National Policy Committee of the National Assembly; and other distinguished guests.

Senior Deputy Director Song Tae-won of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, who won the Service Merit (Green Stripes) in the “anti-corruption” field, played an important role in investigating major corruption cases last year, including the malpractices in the nuclear reactor industry, nonpayment of fines by former President Chun Doo-hwan's family, and bid-rigging scandals regarding the four-river refurbishment projects. He also contributed to nurturing professional investigators in the field of accounting analysis and account-tracking.
