Indonesians are now able to submit their complaints against the Korean government in their native language. The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) launched the e-People website (www.epeople.go.kr) in the Indonesian language on November 25 for about 27,000 Indonesian nationals living in Korea.

e-People is a web service to handle complaints and petitions against the Korean government by integrating all public organizations in Korea, including central government agencies, local governments, and Korean missions overseas. It deals with corruption reports, complaints against public-sector organizations or administrative systems, and administrative appeals filed by citizens and foreigners in Korea.

In line with the government's policy goal of creating an open society embracing foreigners, the ACRC plans to provide its e-People service in all languages used by foreign nationals of 10,000 or more residing in Korea. Currently, the e-People service is provided in six foreign languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Mongolian, and Indonesian.

The Indonesian-language service of e-People is a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding that was concluded between the ACRC and the Indonesian Office of the Ombudsman last February. The creation of the new online channel is expected to strengthen the mechanism for protecting the rights of Indonesian immigrants including migrant workers and multicultural families.

An official in the e-People Division of the ACRC said that the ACRC plans to actively publicize its e-People service though foreign missions in Korea and Korean missions overseas so that more and more foreigners can take advantage of the online petition service.

"We will also continue to provide the e-People service in additional languages including Thai," the ACRC official said.
