2010 IOI Board of Directors Meeting

  Acting Chairman of ACRC, Mr. In-Je Park attended the 2010 IOI(International Ombudsman Institute) Board of Directors meeting held in Bermuda, from October 16th to 20th.

 

  During the meeting, New Zealand Ombudsman(Beverley Wakem) has been elected as the President of IOI, North Ireland Ombudsman(Tom Frawley) as the Vice President, and HongKong Ombudsman(Alan Lai) as the Treasurer respectively.  The new Executives and the Secretariat based in Vienna, will propel new IOI projects such as Comparative Research, Ombudsman training, Internation Cooperation with World Bankd and ICC(International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions).  

  Mr. Park talked with IOI Secretary General(Peter Kostelka) on IOI Asia regional issues. Currently the Asian Regional Vice President is not represented due to the resignation of former ACRC Chairman, Jae-oh Lee. Mr. Park explained that there would likely be scheduled an election for new Asia Regional Director and Vice President in near future.

  Mr. Park also talked with various Ombudsmen from many other regions. Macao Ombudsman(Man Chong Fong) proposed to perform a comparative research among Korea-Pakistan-Macao ombudsmen, and to publish the results in their respective languages. Spain Katalan Ombudsman(Rafael Ribo) showed interest to launch a cooperation program with ACRC, starting with intensive research on other part's annual report and internet website. 

  On the last day at Bermuda college forum, Mr. Park made a short speech on the characteristics and specialties of ACRC. ACRC's E-people system, 110 call center and Outreach program received passionate interest from the participants.
